I like braided line with a fluorocarbon leader on my jigging rod. It is very sensitive with the braid.

I use a thicker braided line on my tip ups (less likely to cut my fingers when the fish runs) and 4-10lbs P-line for leader and on my poles. P-line is tough as nails I use it on the Kenai river in Alaska for salmon (heavier line of course).
Come on fish!

I don't use tip-ups very often but I like to use braided line while jigging, especially in deep water. I don't fish out of an ice shanty so the braided line seems to freeze up more easily than mono on really cold days. I have tried various braided lines, even so-called "water resistant" lines, but it still freezes easier than mono.

Braided line works much better for my tipups the monofiliment seams to get to brittle in the cold.
