Hole distance center to center on the big blade is 2 1/8". Below is a pic that shows the small blade placement. You will need a carbide drill to drill through the center point to attach the small blades. The point on the auger is hardened steel and a HSS or Cobalt drill bit will not drill through it. Point is well over 50Rc. Ideally the holes should be drilled with a straight flute carbide drill on a milling machine otherwise you will end up chipping the carbide.

I believe that STX blades are also ripper style just like the normal jiffy blades, the main difference being the extra blades on the center point of the STX.

Pretty much. The big blade is like the "ripper" blades but with a different finish. The STX blades may be made of different steel as they have a warrenty on them, however I would not be surprised if it is the same steel as the other blades. All my Stealth/STX blades have held up very well for years now. I just touch them up with a fine diamond hone maybe once a year to keep them razoe sharp. Also helps to keep a light coat of oil on them to prevent rust.

Maybe they just induction hardened the edges of the center point then. That would leave the center soft.
