P-Line Fluoroclear vs Gamma esp ice?
« on: Nov 29, 2013, 03:34 PM »
So after using Gamma ESP ice 6# and 4# ice line for a few years on my setups, I have run out of stock and it is hard to find in stores.  I really had good luck with it as far as strength goes.  I was looking at possibly giving P-line floroclear 6# a try.  Does anyone has experience with both and would be willing to speak about the differences?  Also, I read on some other forums that floroclear is the same as floroice, just spool size and yardages are the difference.  Is anyone able to confirm that?  Thanks for the input guys.  Looking forward to a good ice season!  Good luck to everyone!

Can't confirm the comparison but can put in a thumbs up for the Floroclear. I have been using it for several seasons in  2 and 4#. I do a lot of jigging for pan fish and it has good knot strength and is very hard to see. It isn't true flourocarbon though; pretty sure it is coated. That said I bought the more expensive P-line and didn't like it as much. Back to the Floroclear....just spooled up a bunch of spinning reels with it.

You can order gamma line on their website.  I have used the 2lb and 4lb the last 2 years and had great success with it. I called their phone number and they had the line to me in a few days.

yeah i saw i can order it from their site blackknight industries or whatever it was.... however, i almost feel that the gamma esp has a little too much stretch when fishing in water over 25'.  I am looking for something with similar strength and diameter, but a little less stretch for better hooksets.  i'm not a fan of braided lines in the cold so would like to stick with mono.  thanks for the input

floroclear is a Copolymer same as the gamma, most likely about the same amount of stretch. If you want less your two options are straight fluoro or pre-stretching your line. I really like floroclear in the 2# & 4# for it's price and performance. I always pre-stretch after relining, and the night before going out -good way to check for nicks and abrasions as well. Most standard ice true fluorocarbons are absolute garbage so if you go that route be ready to spend some money and still deal with increased memory.
