HT portable, or Pak Shak- 1 man fishing
« on: Dec 04, 2013, 01:42 PM »
Looking to buy a new 1-man fishing shelter, looking for experience between the two.
No i do not want a sled or pull behind type. Where im fishing, a deer trail is a blessing, cant pull anything through that. Im not a huge fan of the "camping chair" type pull-overs, but its what works for me.
Im just looking for a side-by-side comparison of each before i pick one up.
FWIW, i have a 3-man pak-shak, it has its ups and downs, just curious to see if the HT unit is any different/better before i buy.

I had one of the Pak Shacks. It worked pretty good for as cheap as it was. Mice ate it while in my shed though.

I fish some walk in spots too and the best thing I can tell you to look at is a small Hub shelter (18 lbs and in a backpack bag) and a 5 gallon bucket.  Put your Vex, tackle, and a couple rods in the bucket in one hand.  A hand auger in the other hand and the Hub on your back and you can get in some very remote spots.

Those chair units don't impress me at all.  Seem very cheap and useless in any sort of wind, but I've never fished in one, just sat in them at the store.

I have the suit case style HT  its nice but the bag to hold it is crap. When you pick it up to put on your back the straps tear off. The material is to weak.:

I have been using the HT instashak for two years, and couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price.  I use a small childs sled that is almost the exact length and width of the shak in its bag.  I also have the ht rod case that hold my rods and tackle. and a fold up hunting chair that lays flat on the sled.  auger on top with a bungie cord and its no wider than a deer trail..

shak goes up in seconds plenty of room for one person and all gear on the inside.  ive used it with two people and that wasn't bad either. had enough room for equiptment and heater.

hightly recommended

for the price its hard to beat the HTs instishack but if your going to be carrying it on your back i recommend picking up a different bag
