With the polymer flighting you lose almost a pound over the regular 4" Lazer, and it's a good 1.5lb's less than the Finnbore/Nils.

Blades are a PITA to find, and they don't come with the offset handles anymore.

If you really, really want the lightest shaver out there, get it.  In terms of actual use, not concened about the weight, I'd look at the Finnbore/Nils - myself I favor the Finnbore but would not be upset with a Nils.

If you walk a long ways and need to carry all your gear weight 2lbs makes a huge difference. For that, I would want the synthetic lazer.

I have a hard time believing that flighting is going to hold up when dealing with wet, heavy slush. What I do know is there is no shortage of augers that cut much easier/faster than the lazers and what little effort you save by pulling a lousy 1lb less is moot in comparison to the effort it takes popping holes. Look into the fin-bores or nils. BTW, the fin-bore micro drills are lighter than the gimmicky "polymer" lazers.

You'll probably need to get one from a wholesaler in Canada, I had an address for a supplier earlier in the season that would ship to the US -if I can find it I'll pm you. They may be tough to get a hold of being end of season.

That's cool, I figured it would have to come from Canada,  won't need it to next year, so it would be fall anyway. Be perfect for early Trout!

The 6" Finbore lll (folding ) weighs 5 pounds 12 ounces. The 6" Strikemaster synthetic weighs 5 pounds 2 ounces. The Finbore is not available anywhere in the USA.

The fin-bore micro drill 6" weighs 4.8 pounds, the fin-bore III are easily available in the US -it's the micro drills that are hard to get a hold of. So, wrong x2.

I am a big fan for the Fin-bore and the few places that sell them in the US have been out of stock all season...

I have a 4 regular lazer and you would be surprized on the size of gills and crappie that have come through. Now I did get a 13" crappie stopped when there was a foot of ice. I reach down and pulled it through. So I do have a 6" inch now. But as far as first ice, I love the 4.   It also is nice to just drill a 4 inch hole between two sixs for your flasher to go in. But that is a lot of weight to add to your load.

Nam. I have a 4.5" Finbore that comes with the offset handles. We fish some of the same lakes so it would be any trouble to meet up so you could try the 4.5 finbore.

My 4" Lazer is over ten years old. Only replaced the blades once. I do have another set of blades for backup but they resharpen very easily to new condition in a few minutes. The 4" cuts very fast and easy through thich ice. I have added a couple 5" and a 6" Lazers to my arsenal. Never lost a fish for the 4" hole being to small.

I think your nils may need some work.  If you are comparing equal size (diameter) drills, the nils will outperform them all, if it is sharp and not been abused!

FYI finnbore and lazer use the same blades.
