I use 8lb suffix orange on my tipdowns.  I use a four lb floro leader which I would recommended with any hi-vis line.  Especially in clear water.

I used some of their orange line for open water fishing this past season and really liked it.   I am getting to that point in life where the line is getting finer and the hole on the hook is getting smaller.   Will be trying some of the orange line this winter just for that reason.

I used it last year and had trouble with it freezing up on me. I also seemed lose a lot more fish on it too.

I was at a seminar a few years back and one of the speakers was the winner of the Canadian ice fishing open, he had all his rods rigged with suffix orange. I have been using it ever since ( i use leaders on all of them)

Excellent post IceFisher64!

I have been wondering about those Hi Vis lines too. Am i missing something here? I dont get it, i hear a lot of folks saying they use a leader because the line is hi vis and they dont want the fish to see the line...why use Hi Vis then.

I can understand it's application if as Crappie-Attitude says its because the old eye's aint what they used to be...LOL...CA....I just got reading glasses for the first time,  Or perhaps for casting on softwater for bass or something where watching the line is as important as feeling the strike.......BUT FOR STRAIGHT JIGGING DOWN A HOLE IN THE ICE?? Especially if you are worried that water clarity will enable fish to see and be spooked by your line because of water clarity, cuz in my experience once the lake gets a skim of ice water clarity improves.

I like IceFisher64 would like to know what people think about this and why they use Hi-Vis lines.

I guess i should clarify, i would use a leader no matter what color of braid I was using. I use Suffix as it is the best braid I have found, and orange (and now neo-green) are the only color choices they have. I find that most mono/floro lines work way better as leaders then when fully spooled on my reel. I never, ever have coiling issues and when i change the fish Im targeting i just change the leader strength.

I use power pro red summer and winter no leader whatsoever, and catch lots of fish. My buddy uses power pro green with a floro leader most days he don't out fish me.

I have the suffix orange on 3 of my combos (20lb I believe),I was very impressed with it. I always use a fluoro leader so not to spook the fish.

i ave never used suffix orange but i use 2lb stren gold ice line with or without leader in shallow water and the gills and crappie dont care.

off topic but every one likes low memory ice line. i use stren gold because it has some memory. i have hooked fish because they started to straighten the coil in the line but have not even moved the bic lighter spring bobber

Personally, I use it because I hand line my tipdowns.  It makes it a whole lot easier when you're trying to get the bait back down the hole when you have a hi-vis and a slightly thicker line.  Regular mono is dang near invisible when it's laying onthe ice.

I dont use tip ups...but that makes good sense, guess thats why a lot of that "tip-up" line is orange.

Thanks mrcrowley.

Just tried it the other day. I like it but not sure it likes me. Using my camera I noticed my Rat Finke spinning way to much! Why, I don't know. I was using an Okuma fly reel.
