The End Is Near

The ice is holding up well as the first day of spring comes to an end, but my gear is in disarray, my body is broken and weary, and while none of that would really matter, I just sold off all my brownie points and took a loan on the "honey do" list to get a pre dawn shot at the big lake.  It will probably be the last trip up there for awhile............Apri l one comes to mind , but that is like eleven days away.  But the last serious, kidless icefishing day of the season will be tomorrow.  Hopefully the report will be good.  The weather looks spectacular! I am optimistic.

Well oddfish, I do hope you have a good time, tis a sad time of year for sure. Pulling my bobhouse off of Lil squam almost brought a tear to my eye. Oh well till next year.

Good Luck with the trip north.... I am planning  a run on Saturday - for the first and probably last time this season... and plan on staying until I have something to post       From the sounds of it, looks like lots of people have the same plan... should be a busy weekend on the ice.

Best of Luck! I have similar ideas as well hoping to get out one last time on Sunday! Its been cold as of late down here in Southern NH! Keeping my hopes up!

Wanting to go somewhere new this weekend, hopefully Massy if time permits, also was thinking of Baboosic or Great Lake in Kingston. Anyone have any luck out there? and what do you catch?

I was on massy on Monday near the traffic circle city park and yacht club.  This was before the snow.  There were several open fishing holes that never refroze.  The ice varied in thickness from 5 or 6 inches to 12 inches.  You could tell where the less safe areas were.  Now that the snow has come I don't think you would find me out in that same spot as the ice was a bit sketchy.  Be careful if you go.

This weekend will be my last outing on the ice. Next weekend is a family weekend down in CT.

I've already got my surf casting gear out and organized, and my fly fishing equipment, along with my kayak, which I will be rigging over the next few weeks.

My waders were sent off for repairs and I have been tying salmon streamers so I can nail a few broodstock this spring.

I'm shopping for some new wading boots.

I Just ordered some new pliers for my surf belt and am waiting for a Shimano Albrid Power Aero reel from Japan.

My ice fishing gear is strewn all over the basement, and putting it away will be a task unto itself.

Right now my mind is in flux, as my inner fisherman is caught dreaming about one last chance at jigging up a trophy lake trout, catching a fat salmon on the swing, drop shotting for a 5lb largemouth, playing a dancing rainbow, and pulling a monster striper from the surf. Flashing before my eyes are images of jig sticks, tip-ups, braided line, plugs, 10 ft rods, drop shot rigs, bimini twists, 8000 size reels, insect hatches, 6x tippet, bucktails, live eels, native brook trout, spring rain, jetties and all the other glorious aspects of being a fisherman in New England.

I really got the fever bad.

It's not an end but a continuum.
