tip-up minnows
« on: Dec 25, 2005, 09:41 PM »
I'm fishing in nw wisconsin and was curious what type of minnow to use on my tip ups.  I've heard shiners, walleye suckers.  I was curious about fatheads or even crappie minnows.  Thanks for any info. shared.

Try emerald shiners if you can get them.

Try emerald shiners if you can get them.

Emerald shiners tend to die off quickly and don't last long in a bucket.I strongly suggest golden shiners or smaller sized chub, or sucker to improve your catch.Add a few beads to your leader and flags will be trippin in no time. ;D

I have heard that fathead minnows are a tough little baitfish that stays alive for quite some time.
I would try them. :)

I like using golden shiners.  Those emerald shiners are horrible.  They see the hook coming at them and the die.

Thanks for sharing guys.  Most people on the lake I use are using shiners, but I have had some luck on fatheads too.  I haven't heard of anybody else using them out here.  Fatheads are tough little guys and cheap too!  Thanks again.

icicles are producive but die way too easily.  The best all around bait is a 3" shiner.  They stay alive a long time after being hooked.
