Hey Bo, from Winnipeg as well.  Never fished Westhawk for Lakers but used to live up north(Flin Flon) and caught ours during the day.  We caught anywhere from 25 to 100 feet using Sucker, Whitefish, Smelt and chummed them in.  Sonar helps, fish the whole water column.  Try the drop and fast reel-up when things get slow.  We could see them down the hole chasing up from about 30 feet on Athapap....

timing for the bite really depends on the lake.  Some lakes I fish, they bite really good only first and last light, others they bite best during the few hours around noon.
