I own an LX5 and I have had very good luck with it. I opted for a LX 7 this year and I am not sure it can live up to the LX 5. Here are my observations...maybe I have a bad unit.  I sent the LX7 back to Marcum and they re-installed version 3.17 and sent it back to me...did not see any difference. Here are the issues :

The LX 5 does a way better job of marking small jigs than the LX7. I have the LX7 sensitivity up to 19 to mark a size 8 football jig in 41 feet of water. The same jig on the LX5 is about a 3 setting.

The target adjust on the LX7 doesnt do much...I turn it up and it shows a yellow mark not much bigger than when it is set to 0. From my observation, the marks on the LX5 are much bigger than the 7. The 7 shows a razor thin line on the flasher screen and a little bigger line when the target adjust is turned way up.

I have a little interference or yellow marks that flash on and off in the 9:00 to 12:00 position of the flasher dial. This area of the dial is the empty space just above the bottom that is marked on the left side.

Are you guys running the LX7 having any of the same issues? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I am really frustrated after spending 650.00 and not sure if the problems listed above are normal and a future software upgrade may fix or do I have to send the unit back to Marcum again?

I have not owned one or even seen one live so I am guessing here.......There is so much new digital technology on those you may have to tweak a setting here and tweak another setting there to get everything running tip top.  Again I am guessing but the old units were simple, turn it on, gain, IR button.  There are a lot more options on the new Marcums.

ditto. I bought the LX6 and did the software upgrade to 3.17, very frustrated with the unit.  I usually fish in 20' of water and the unit has a very tough time locating  a small rat finke.  My LX 5 had no issues with the smaller jigs.  I'm wishing I kept the LX5.....  oh well.

adjust your ping rate, and use zoom more, if using in graph mode then you have to up the sensitivity, Stick with it . It will be fine once you start tweaking it
