Information please
« on: Feb 09, 2013, 03:15 PM »
I am thinking about coming in March to do some ice fishing.  I was wanting some information on good places to stay, to rent shanties, etc.  My wife is coming with me.  It will be a weekend trip.  Thanks.

Iceman,
I don't have any info for your trip, but I see that you are from Syracuse. My in-laws used to live on the east side of that lake and I used to fish it all the time. I live in northern Illinois and make numerous early fishing trips to both Wisconsin and Minnesota. If you ask me Syracuse is as good or better than most of the lakes in my state or the others that I fish. I have caught Northerns up to 17#, Bass up to 6 1/2# and Perch up to 14" from that lake in the winter. I taught my oldest son how to tip-up fish when he was 5 yrs. old on that lake. When he was 7 yrs. old he had a Northern that wouldn't fit thru an 8" hole. That was 20 years ago but we talk about making a day trip back and giving it another go. The way we look at it is if we're going to drive 3 hours we might as well go to Syracuse because there is better fish in there than any other within the same distance. We catch a lot of Big Northerns, Walleye and Bass here in Illinois, but always talk about the times we had out on Syracuse.

Thanks for the replies. I was out of town for a week and unfortunatley checking in on iceshanty wasn't an option. As of right now my idea of taking a road trip to do some fishing is on hold, maybe next year. Again thanks
