Expecting the worst!
« on: Jan 10, 2013, 06:32 AM »
Two of our small lakes were stocked with trout yesterday evening. My fishing partner called to me to see if the water is open enough to fish. Both lakes were completely frozen with no open water, but the ice is only 1/2"-1" thick.Someone or several people had already been there checking the ice thickness by throwing rocks and sticks out onto the ice.I am worried that this morning some knucklehead will try his luck on the ice.The fact that we never have much of an ice season magnifies the odds they will try it.As I stood on my porch at 6:00 this morn,I heard a siren from the lakes direction, sure hope I'm wrong.

risking your live for a fish is just plain stupid, risking your life over stock trout may be even dumber, but I hope nobody was dumb enough to try and everybody is safe

Some people really amaze me on how they think man a 10 pound rock didn't break through I think I can walk out there.

If there's one thing I've learned from ice fishing, it's this:

For evey smart angler who weighs the risks before they go out, there are several loogans who throw caution to the wind, and end up on the evening news.
Everybody has to believe in something.
      ... I believe I'll go fishing.

It doesn't even matter how much you warn people either, you could have the lake surrounded with warning signs thin ice. Let Darwinism take its course.

Agreed!  There are some people who's purpose in life is to become a statistic.  You can warn them, show them, tell them,  etc.. and they will do it anyway.  Ron White said it best, "You can't fix STUPID"!
