are there other options for fish finders....
« on: Jan 05, 2013, 03:38 PM »
it makes me excited every time someone talks about the latest marcum or vex...then my heart sinks when i see the $400 plus price range...are there options for something that is half the price thats accurate in the 20 to 60 fow range...dont need all the bells and whistles...just can't afford the best and certainly dont want to spend on a lesser unit that doesn't work for me.....

I have a great fear of recommending anything, as I'm often wrong. I have a Lowrance X67C, it's been discontinued, but they are still available, new, out there.

The marcum showdown troller would be perfect for you. Go check it out. For $150 I think it would be a good investment.

A used vexlar fl8 is what I use. got on Craigslist for $200 best for no bells and whistle I also have the lowrance mentioned and never had any good luck with it.  it also didn't have a noise reduction option so you can't fish near anyone.  Find an old vexlar and you won't be disappointed!

I had the Troller 1.0 (returned it and bought the 2.0), but if you could drop an extra $50 ($199), I'd spring for the 2.0. Or, buy the killer deal on the Troller 2.0 with free battery from Reeds Sports. I'd post the link, but apparently IS doesn't allow me to post the Reeds Sports link  ::)

For the price I paid for the Troller 2.0 and kit ($249.99) I really like it.

If I could have found a FL8 for $200, I would have snatched it up in a hurry!

I have a Showdown and I would hate to have to fish without it. Great tool to help on the ice not only to locate fish but if the ice is clean enough you can use it to find depth if you wet the ice a little and set the transducer on the ice. Great sonar for the price in my opinion.
My lifelong quest is to find out if a 20 lb. walleye will fit through a ten inch hole.
