The last 3 years Ive fished Carmi on the 24th of Dec or before.  Not looking like Ill waste my time this year with the catch rates from this summer.  Maybe the state will take a good look at it and see something needs to be done before all of the Walleye are gone.

Yes, 100% overfished.  The Perch catches are way down as well.  Now guys are catching Crappie, Bowfin and other non native fish there.  Not to mention the big population of Alewife.

when did they start catching bow fins and crappie i ice fish that lake all winter just about every day never heard of that. a problem people have catching perch there if you don't know how to fish them or don't have good electronics your wasting your time. same with the walleyes if u don't know were to fish for them and how or what time of day u wont catch many . on first ice i will catch 8-10 a day for 3 weeks until they move off same with the perch limit every day.

I've never seen a bowfin there but have caught and seen some nice crappies come from there. Seems like a tricking place to fish though.

You may be right but its not the first time Ive fished that lake.......  just a year ago I could go up there and catch 40-50 walleye a day sumer time and jig well over 20 ice fishing not to mention limits of perch.  No BS.  Check old threads.  Those days are gone.  Maybe folks just need to make adjustments to fish deep water to target the suspended alewife but most wont think into it that far.

Yes, those Perch can be very finicky.  Most my the Perch from last year came in 30 FOW on a big basin flat.  Match the hatch.

i drove up to the state park today to see what there was, and it was locked up all the way across. give it a few days to get a little thicker and it will be safe
Black tip up line is hard to see both during the day and the night... Plan accordingly!
