I have seen a few of these pop up camper style shanties out on the ice.  Never really looked to close at how they were designed, but it appears to be workable.  I'd say go for it!!

I would say go for it, I was thinking of doing the same thing the only thing that stopped me was the fact that it would be hard to sleep in, since in northern minn where i would use it it gets cold and would cost alot to heat i think and that is what i wanted a shanty that size for

duckmn - Maybe you could look into getting a woodstove http://www.nuwaystove.com (thanks billditrite) to heat it.  I'm sure it wouldn't take much too maintain the heat in it.

I have one made from an old Palomino. Threw everything away that was canvas and built studded walls. Insulated it with foam and paneled the inside. The top was shot so I had to build the roof. I built trap doors in the floor and I fish through 10 inch pvc pipes. I actually have to open a window to keep it cool enough to sleep in it on the ice. I'm in South Dakota so you know it gets cold.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.
