Is my bait heading for deeper water?
« on: Dec 07, 2012, 11:47 AM »
The bait pond I've been hitting up seems to be changing. Three weeks ago when I started trapping, the culvert area was jammed full of smaller-sized shiners. Each week, there seems to be fewer and fewer small guys. Are these fish heading toward deeper water? I've never successfully trapped shiners before so I'm not really sure if there's a turn over and I have to venture further out into the pond.

I notice that they'll suspend in deeper water.  If possible set up your trap just under the ice in about10' of water.  If you got multiple traps suspend them at different depths.  It can make all the difference
