I need a summer project and a large permanent shack. Is there any reasonable way to build one or should I just look to buy a used one. Basically I want a trailer with wheels that drops to the ice and a rear door that folds down to load an atv.

If there is a will there is a way!  I have built a few shacks, but not of the trailer type.  If you live in an area with ice roads and you don't need skis on your shack than you should be fine.   If you want to use it as a trailer than it will limit what you can do to the inside of the shanty.  It will be interesting to hear ideas on this one.

Could find yourself a used enclosed trailer, and install a couple windows, Add some lights etc. insulate, and panel it. If you install fold up benches you could still use it as a trailer in the summer months. The nice thing is you have time to find one and can buy used windows etc as they come around and store them in it till you are ready to build.  Just an idea. I bought one that i use for a storage building and keep it on property i camp on. I was going to turn it into a shanty but i ended up using a pontoon boat instead.

That is a good idea, if I buy a used enclosed trailer is there anyway to modify it so it can be cranked down to sit flush with the ice?

Could just install hole liners that go from the hole to the ice and let it sit up higher, would need to install crank down jacks on the corners to sturdy the trailer and to keep it from bouncing around when you hook a monster lol
