Just bought the Jiffy Pro 4!!!
« on: Mar 02, 2012, 06:35 PM »
Got it on sale for $467.99!  It's a 9".  I got it all set up and ran out to the local pond to give her a test run.  She cuts like butter and does it quickly and quietly!!!  LOVE IT!  Will post more info later on performance but it looks like the propane is a great way to go.   ;D

I've been using one this season and absolutely love it, they are a bit heavy but that hasn't bothered me at all yet. Best part I have only burned up 3 tanks so far, probably due to the ice never getting over 16" but I'll take it.

I am pretty excited.  This is the first power auger I have personally owned.  It definitely ain't light like you said but I think the weight also helps to balance it on the ice and helps it to cut nicely.  I have been running a cordless drill and gear reduction box attached to a mora auger for a while now, but this is like stepping into a cadillac!!!

P.S.  I realy liked your quote at the bottom of your posting... lol...  Nice lesson on astronomy...

I would like to have a Jiffy Pro 4, but my 2hp Stealth keeps going and going and going. I may have to shoot it.  ;D

what I enjoy the most about the Pro 4 is how quiet the auger runs, and the fact I can run the auger inside my shelter with no fumes.

I really love mine I bought it at the Ice Expo in St Paul , I only went through two tanks of propane and I drilled a lot of holes, If you unscrew the bottle between uses you will get more holes per tank. Every time we went out everybody used my auger and loved it.

The only disappointing thing about the thing is the big USA flag on the box and the small Made in China sticker on the motor, after I was bragging about my auger that was made in Sheboygan Wisconsin. Some guy with a Nils auger with a Tanaka  motor on it pointed it out. I hate when I'm tricked by a big US Flag on a product that isn't made here. It seems dishonest to me.

Pro 4's do drill nice but I can't justify doubleing the weight of my current auger and 3-5X annual fuel costs to own one....

lol... I love all of the banter that goes on here at IS!  I know it's a little heavy but this way I will stay in shape after all of my summer hiking and fall elk hunting.  After all, 6 can curls only get you so far...   ;D

When my Nils/Tanaka dies I'll look for a new one.... not expecting that to happen in my lifetime though....still can't justify 38 pounds over 21 pounds...And I have no use for little green bombs, haven't bought one in near 20 years....

You are a very loyal owner of your equipment Sir.  I agree on the weight part, but have loved those little green bombs now that I refill them. ;)  Thinking about a nils hand auger for early and late ice myself.

Tanakas have 50 years behind them, longest lasting 2 stroke in production at the moment....Not loyalty just choosing the best tool to spend my money on that will hopefully last the longest....Same reason I spend $250 on a hammer, it's the best out there and I make my living with it.....

Please do! I drill a lot of holes and it would be nice to take a break some time! Bet you could drill a ton with that 20lb tank.

Heck, I bet I could come up with one better!!!  I have seen propane powered jeeps so what about a propane powered 4 wheeler and a auger adapter on the front that works like a post hole auger on a little bobcat!!!  You just pull your shanty out, drill your holes, and as you drive over them you stop the shanty on top, get off, and start fishing!!!   ;D ;D ;D  I am gonna be rich!  lol

I just can't bring myself to put her down though.

After today, I can see how any "living" auger should be maintained and kept alive.  Sure made everything a pleasure!

I was pretty stoked today becuase I just got to rip up a bunch of holes into 2 feet of ice!  It was fun to just give the cord one pull and then start punching holes.  The jiffy worked in a jiffy and I drilled all over the map.  It really was 24" and the Pro 4 cut through like butter.  I only had to cut 12 to 15 holes and found the fish about 2/3's of the way through it all.  Caught some nice eaters and even though the winds were pushing 30 and better with blowing snow, the jiffy still started up when it was called upon.  Very impressed.  Very happy.

Can't wait to get back out there!
