Fishing Lakes

The City of Martensville is working on developing an area east of Kinsmen Lake for fishing. Fishing will be permitted as long as the following guidelines are followed, all anglers over the age of 16 will require a valid Saskatchewan Angling License, the fishing area is one of catch and release only and only barbless hooks are allowed.

This is from the City of Martensville web site.  It was intended for giving kids a good experience fishing close to home.... lots of catching and easy to go back home if they get bored, cold or wet.  How about we keep it that way.

That's a great idea.  It would be nice to have a c & r pond close to home.

years back before aolt of people new about this i caught alot i took a few home just to try man they were good. now they dont want any taken out but if u think about how fast and how much they reproduce there going to end up with alot of winter kill in a few yeras. i think it would be a good idea to let people keep a limit of 5 perch. its enought for a taste and just enough to keep them going.
fish and hunt till it kills me or i kill it

The Pond there is like an aquarium.
Last time I was there I did talk to a CO and it was standard rules.
Only the one pond was allowing fishing, the other wasn't. There were signs posted.

Most of them were super small but fun to catch. Can't imagine wanting
to actually fillet them. I think they were over crowded and weren't growing that big.

So, you can take them and eat them. Barbs were allowed.  There was a sign
at the parking lot last season so have a look at it for the barb thing if it has changed.

wont cause winter kill but too many fish for a given waterbody will cause stunting!

I was out there a couple weekends ago, The sign says Catch and Release is encouraged.  That tells me that you are allowed to keep them but it is frowned upon.

They are probably saying that for two reasons.  Its a small lake and could be fished out.  The other is that is the storm water retention pond for all of Martensville.  So all of the runoff collected from the streets, backyards weeping tile, etc in these lakes goes to these ponds.  Probably not going to kill you, but not that healthy for you.

I stopped by there the other weekend and have never been before.  I looked at the pond and felt like an adult jumping into the ball bin at McDonalds!  So I didn't bother and left.  Kids can have their fun  ;D
