I was checked this last Sunday (2/12/12) by a game warden.  My ATV is registered but no VASA. You only need VASA if you ride their trails.  Lake Champlain is public. Game Warden said I was in complete compliance.

I didn't check this year but last year I called VT F&G because I live in NH and have a NH reg. on my atv. I asked if I needed to reg it in VT. As long as I use it on frozen water I was told that I didn't need to reg it in VT. I know that it depends on who you talk to because you will get a different answer everytime.

I believe all VAST and VASA rules and regulations stop where the land meets the water and don't apply when you are on the lake.Thats what I was told.Body of water vs land.I know when that family went through on Dunmore a couple of years ago the paper said the same thing VAST stops at the edge of the lake.

Well I am glad I registered the kids wheeler on Friday. They had a blast with it out on Bomo, and it was a great way for them to stave off boredom.

As luck would have it we were visited by the game wardens on Sunday as we were packing up. First question (as they looked at 3 wheelers parked together) was "are all of those ATV's registered?" to which I answered yes. The warden walked straight over to the kids wheeler and then around behind it and saw the plate on it and said out loud "well look at that, the kid's ATV IS registered!" then laughed a bit. I guess he was hoping to be able to ticket me  ::)

I guess the VASA tag is not required on the lake!  ;D ;D
