Fog

I know the effects of rain and snow on frozen bodies of water....but does fog affect the ice?  If so, good or bad?  I'm asking because it's been extremely foggy here in NE PA.

No but the fog affects the ice fisherman. It is easy to get turned around on a foggy lake, especially a big one. ::)

You have to have the lake marked with a GPS first.

Got lost in fog on Bay of GreenBay on the ice and very spooky wondering where the open water and the pressure crack was. Luckily I always have an old cheapo compass hanging on a lanyard from the pickup mirror and we used it to get off with no big problem but it was scary.
Good thing about prisons- they reduce the potential number of fisherman on the ice!

It's called hoarfrost, and it is quite cool.
Especially with a 35mm black/white.

Fished at Houghton Lake last weekend and boy was it foggy.  I took the 4 wheeler and the rest of the guys went out in the truck.  I got to the spot first and they came out a few minutes later.  As we talked on the radio they had to honk their horn so I could guide them in.  Turned out we were only less than 100 yards apart.

Have never ice fished in the fog , but in the fall 1 time i did. After launching boat into lake michigan to head a mile out to the breakwall for some good perch action , had the fog roll in on me . Had difficulties trying to find the wall, i should also mention the approx 1/2 way between the ramp and the wall , is a large municipal water intake that we call a donut.  trying to avoid this intake and still find the wall was almost impossible. Anyway when the fog finally started to lift about 2 hours later i found myself approx 2 miles out in the opposite direction . Now i have the coordinates locked into GPS , in case that ever happens again.

It is rather scary to be on the water and try to find something in a fog.
