studding 136" 440 fan cooled
« on: Dec 01, 2013, 08:47 AM »
Just picked up a 98 arctic cat panther 440 fan cooled 136" track. I know these sleds are low in horsepower. I plan on outfitting a rack for my gear and gas auger on the back and towing my otter ice cabin with gear behind it. Is 108 studs too much for that 440 or should I go less. This sled will be used mainly for ice fishing for a couple years and then my wife will take over and trail ride it.

108 sounds about right for that sled. Just make sure you match the size of the carbide runners under the ski's to match and you'll be fine. If you don't you may have a hard time turning once the studs are installed, especially on bare ice.

No problem! I run carbide runners on all my sleds, they last much longer than plain wear bars. Once you've got the carbides on your sled, you can further adjust their "bite" by playing with the front spring(s) in your rear suspension. Tighten the spring on the front ar to take weight off the ski's and let them slip a bit more in corners, soften the springs to put more weight and give them more grip.
