rigging a puppet minnow?
« on: Jan 17, 2012, 11:21 PM »
What is the best way to rig a puppet minnow, Got a couple to use but never used them. Do you use a swivel or tie on direct? Which of the three holes on top and do you tip with bait and how? ??? ???

A swivel with a leader to it is nice, less line twist. Each hole on tip gives a bit different action, just depends on what you like. I haven't baited them, if you use something too big it messes up the action, a perch eye or minnow head is probably ok though.

I just watched a episode of in fishermans ice fishing and they sid you can remove the treble and then tip the back hook with a minnow tail for a nice presentation or you can use a dropper type rig with a 2.5 inch leader and single hook tipped with a minnow head of go classic with a fast attach on a wide gap long shank treble by eagle claw and slide a minnow head over the shank of the hook and re attach it then fish. good luck

Me too. The sliding-the-minnow-on-the-treble-trick is accompanied by a fastach clip. They are really cool, I use them for icefishing and open water. A bit more hardware, but when it hasn't seemed to affect the bite for me.
So many fish, so little time.
