Chittenden Res....worth the drive from CT?
« on: Jan 21, 2012, 07:18 PM »
Me and a buddy are on the hunt to catch some walley. The lakes in CT that have walleye are closed for the season or just not fishable yet due to weather. We have been pondering a weekend trip north or north west in search to catch our first ever ice walleye. Is Chittenden res worth the drive from CT? i see its listed as having walleye, smallies, brown trout, and perch. How is the fishing at this place? thanks for any help. Would really appreciate any feedback so we arent heading out blind.

Its worth the drive if you want to catch millions of dink Perch and maybe catch a Walleye......You will have a better chance catching a walleye in southern Champlain or the Conn. river.  If you get one from champlain it will be 5lbs or better, Ive never seen one under that  come from the Benson area.

if ya fish chittenden dam ya gotta go at night, i have been there twice  with a buddy and we got one each night, never fished to long though.  go straight across from the boat launch out even with the point to the right bout 10 to 12 foot of water.  if its a full moon it will be better

Walleye bite is definately better at night there so if you're willing to be a night owl then go for it. Lots of Perch (not any real size but still fun to jig), but no Brown Trout. Browns used to be in there a few years ago, but no more.

I live 5 mi. away and I don't think it's worth the drive tons of dinks and you have to be real lucky to catch a legal walleye 22 ins. place is fished to death.

hoppy what are you looking to fish for? there are a lot of good lakes that aren't that far from chittenden res, so if you wanted to make a trip up to fish in this area i/we can point you in the direction of some better lakes.
