late ice tactics
« on: Jan 14, 2012, 12:17 PM »
with there being such a late ice season here, wondered if/when we can finally get on some ice, will it change the way you would normally start your season.
as start shallow and work to deeper water,or will you start deeper, later season tactics.
with the weather here I'm getting alittle anxious.been wondering how to fish a late season like WE have here.want to make the most of it,i'll probably do more searching at first.
what's everyones opinion?  thanks in advance

I'd fish the same spots I normally do...any place that has safe ice.  ;D  I would try where you would normally go for early ice.

Don't see very much in a change. Main thing that moves fish around is the dying weeds eating up the oxygen, open water, sunny and the weed beds should be in decent shape. As usual, check the normal first ice locales and adjust from there

Besides oxygen getting low the other thing that changes there location under the ice is food source. As winter wears on good food source gets thin, and they head for deeper bottom areas looking for insect larve in the deeper muck. If you can still find green weeds that is a good place to start, if no fish head deeper..
