Lonewolf  bounced just about all our entries, because we dont show the background of the lake during the day,  or photos being taken on extreme angles           BB had his photo remain though,    I got my whitefish  entry bounced,    its ok,    I got entry pictures in "reserve"

     Dude,   we are going to try them all,   even ones out of province.    I got  a seat sale to Newfoundland to go to their local derby in Feb.   I wonder how it would feel to win 2 derby's with the same fish

yup, rules are rules.
gotta make sure that the ruler is clear and not fuzzy at all. it could come down to 1/8" so clarity is a must..
and must show background pix of daytime pix..

The only problem is now i gotta head back out and im not sure if the big fish im gonna catch is going to be able to fit in just one pic...

Rules are rules that we agreed to upon sign-up.....even when the logic is terrible.  OK at night because not possible to show in picture, but a must for back-ground in the day?  Normally, good logic would dictate that the rules would default to the night rule because its the one that has to be like that.  ie. impossible to show background....furtherm ore, if the reason for any rule at all is fairness and "not cheating", can I now assume that  somebody is worried about cheating in the day but not night? 
In recognition that the tourney is basically for fun anyways, I have ( and a couple others ) decided not to enter any more fish except for maybe as a post for funny bragging rights  as worrying about getting pictures just right and 1/8 of an inches etc.  is a little tiresome....
On the bright side, several people have PM'd me for info, of which I have helped where I can

o, now that you got me started. Cheaters will be cheaters, if they want to smash a fish on the head freeze it move it to a lake for a back ground picture or what ever they dream up , its going to happen. The problem arrises when some of us practice almost complete catch and release. Handleing a trout of any type has its complexities, they cant handle being out of the water for long or dont like to be handled much as it removes their protective slime. So getting a picture of said fish on the ice beside the tape is hard enough. I have release fish that didnt cooperate before because they would end up dead trying. So as far as the picture of me with the fish what flippin difference does it make if im on the ice, beside the ice, standing on my head on the ice as long as its me with the damm fish im entering. By they way i dont remember what first prize was, 20, 10 thousand dollars. o wait its pretty much only bragging rights. Just sayin

yeah my post was a tad bitter...upon reflection, I guess that I don't want to "compete" even for "fun" because I have found ( as pointed out by a fishing buddy ) that once its a competition it changes how I approach fishing...ie.  " secret spots and names", going for certain glory species rather than ones that are plain fun, worrying about just the right picture etc......I can't help myself, so I'm not competing anymore.  That being said, I've met a lot of very good people and fishermen(people) on here and PM's.  Many I have helped and many that have helped me.  That part I hope to remain a part of. as well as the occasional brag picture ( prob without background ) and probably the occasional rant (hah )

-So what they closed down a lake that you use to bonk a few trophy lakers out of?
-So what one fish pic didnt fall within the rules?

-C'mon guys, its nothing to quit about.. We live in B.C.=land of a thousand lakes.. There are way more lakes with trophy lakers and now ya know the picture taking guidelines!-  so dont stop. Crop some of the background out and take lots of pix of the fish and spend a lil extra time reviving the fish...

P.S. salmon:   i remember looking at your picture and thinking that the ruler was on a crazy angle and i wasnt sure just how long it was cuz of poor angle/fuzzy. Tho i did think it was 1/2 longer then mine-then i saw where you put "Sorry ianwuzhere" at the bottom-grrrr.. then i didnt care how big it was, that alone made me drive farther, hike harder and fish for hours more ...

-This tourney is much more for me then just the bragging rights... I look forward to it every winter, i think lots of us do.. No first prize wont fetch ya 10-20 grand, remember this is a free tourney and its all about participation which continues to make it happen year after year... I think this year is the best year of all of them ive been in and we have some wicked categories...

-So you guys can quit if you want and even if you dont want to compete even for fun go ahead...

But im gonna continue to try and represent B.C. and try to make an old friend proud, even if i have to do it by myself. One thing we all know forsure is that he wouldnt have quit, or ever once did i see him post a negative comment..

-we can upgrade those fish any time, no prob!, just get out and fish, with or without your card-just dont forget the camera!!

I caught what was by far my best ling a couple days ago, and I'm still a little pumped about it.  I am glad nothing can be taken away because someone caught a fish 1/4" longer and bumped me out of first place, or I didn't get the picture with the tape measure just right.  Had fun catching it with my buddy, took a couple pics to remember it by and enjoyed eating it for dinner.  For me that's what it's all about. 

We have plans to try a few new to us lakes that we probably wouldn't have bothered with if focused on the tourney because chances of truly big fish there are slim...but it will be fun to check them out.

Some can compete "just for fun" but for me it's then not really a competition.

Some of the things you guys are saying really arent going to help them to decide to keep the site up so tell me is the occasionally rant about quitting cuz this site ruins fishing worth the fact that you could ruin it for all of us who enjoy the site? And i agree with ian i would have never met terry if it wasnt for this site. Also this site has increased my fishing ability ten fold. So i am going to make terry proud the best way i know  by representing bc and post big fish with occasionally smack talking. Also can you guys tell me that you would have still ranted on if your big fish were not bumped?

Don't get your panties in a knot.  The site itself isn't shutting down...Lonewolf is just not going to organize the tourney anymore, and he's been clear it's due to the time and effort necessary to make it happen.  I would suggest that if anyone is truly concerned that they step up and offer to take over from Lonewolf, as Bill Dance eluded to in his thread. 

For the record I had no fish bounced, never have. To those that want to be in the tourney, that is your choice, and good luck!  I just have chosen not to be in it, and that is my choice.

I still like this site, have received and passed on some good info with good people and hope to continue.

Gotta back up Ianwuzhere and BB

I think you guys need to remember who this tourney is dedicated to. Terry wasn't just about icefishing, he was about helping people be better humans. Just look at his profession.

I remember his memorial tourney. Although there was a bit of a somber vibe going on, everyone knew what it was about and was friendly and kept trying. He made a huge impression on alot of you and I think you guys owe it to him to keep givener.
If Terry was still here he'd be trying to keep you guys cool and encouraging you to help him keep his hair lol.

Any competition there's always variables that can set you back. I race cars in amatuer rallyx. Last winter at one race I was kept out of the top 5 cause I had to race in the afternoon. The temperature went up above zero and the ice got really slick. It is what is, and I kept giviner. Next race I came 2nd out of 30.

I'm still learning this icefishing stuff and hopefully I can post something worthy this year. All my spots I got from Terry and I'd love to pull one out for the guy. In respect to a good guy and a leader who really cared, this is the wrong tourney to give up on. If you are gonna give up....wait till next year. BC needs to own our categories.

hey BB i love this site too for all the reasons you described. Its the mentality of the derby im having a problem with
