Plastics and Live Bait, Spring Bobber or Not.
« on: Nov 19, 2013, 09:02 PM »
I have been watching many videos of guys ice fishing most notably Dave Genz videos and I have noticed every time he is fishing with plastics he is not using a spring bobber....Is it better to not use a spring bobber with plastics and only live bait rigs??? Please let me know your 2 cents.

Personal preference but usually if they are biting plastics they are more aggressive and not needed
A bad day of fishin is still better than a good day at work!!

Thats what I was thinkings... The reason I am asking is because I just ordered some gill pills, diamond jigs, and ratsos from CJS and I have 2 dave genz true blue rods with the spring bobber pre attached and 2 HT ice blue Ultra lights with micro guides and I am trying to figure out what rods to use for my gill pills and diamond jigs and what rods to use for my ratsos.

If you are fishing craps or gils go with the spring either way

Thanks for the replies everyone....I cant use a spring bobber on my ht ice blue ultra lights because they are already so sensitive....but my new dave genz poles have the spring bobber already built in so ill try everything out see how it works out.

The reason is. ESP with craps. Your spring will hang at a 45 deg angle with the weight of the lure on. Crappie most time bight very light. And what you will see is the spring actually come up. Yes up like he weigh got taken off. Half of my fish are caught like this. Now u see why I say spring bobber for craps!?

Just stay versatile, it's the best way to consistently catch fish. Many quality spring bobbers can slide in and out to cover the weight of the presentation correctly. If you run into a situation where you're bottom thumping with a tight line it can be pulled back where it acts like the rods tip, not really needed and out of the way. Most of the more consistent fish catchers here are sight fishing, line watchers with a very sensitive and adjustable spring bobber available for whatever situation is presenting itself at the moment. Get a good one, it will be needed under many situations. Would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Even the best quality, most expensive ones are relatively inexpensive when compared to most other stuff we buy
