HT magnetic Tip-Ups
« on: Jan 04, 2012, 05:09 PM »
Anybody use em yet?

I was never a real big fan of HT stuff in general. Always the stuff you buy first cuz its cheap and then you graduate to better stuff.

Tom Gruenwald was nice enough to send me a whole bunch of stuff this year to try and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them...they look decent enough, but havent got em wet yet.

If your talking about the bottle rocket type..windlass. They work ok but when it's really cold and they are not sealed properly the flag freezes inside the tube.

I love em because they are easy to set-up and break down... I have 10 of them.. with a few mods they work well. Just make sure the bottom stays glued or you end up with no reel and no fish.

is it crappy glue? or does the seal take on water and freeze apart?

It's crappy glue...usually is not fully sealed and leaks...but you do mod it make sure the flag is out before glueing

When I first saw those I thought it was a great idea. It has a magnetic tripping mechanism, a light that turns on on the top and they are tall. I bought one and the nut came off on the spool and got lost. After I bought one, 4mm, I was able to get it back together and glue it. I started selling them in my store and they started getting returned because they break. The orange rod breaks off right at the top and can't be glued back on. It cant be replaced with something else because wood or metal is too heavy and it won't pop up. They also get melted and warp if left in a hot shed or place and then don't pop up. I no longer sell them any more.    >:(
I pratice fillet and release!
