Trolling dodgers for ice fishing
« on: Dec 18, 2011, 08:08 AM »
Does anyone have some input on the use of trolling flashers or dodgers on ice fishing set ups? Im mostly considering using them about 1 to 2' above live bait or a jig, on either tip up or jig rod. I think they would work really well in big open water settings, or really anywhere for that matter, to bring in fish/ get them active. Im gonna try it regardless. just lookin to see if anyone uses this method and has any tips.

I used to use one when fishing for Bass and Pickeral years ago... It was just a single silver spoon/blade. It actually worked pretty well. Never tried using one for trout.

that's an interesting idea, I think I might try it this year with a smaller dodger for lakers...I can see it drawing them in, might have a set line nearby too....I'm wondering if anyone has tried this?

I run small Indiana or Colorado blades on my tipup leaders about 18" from the hook. I believe they may bring in curious fish from a distance to investigate the flash, who then see the minnow struggling and hit it.
