submersible lights
« on: Dec 10, 2011, 09:16 AM »
I was at the wall the other day and saw two types of submersible lights.  One with aligator clips one with 4 aa battries.  Has anyone used these  before?  What specicies of fish would be attracted?

I fish with two guys that both have the lights that you talking about that clip to a battery. One guy has a green light and one guy has a white one. The green one seems to work better and it is not as harsh as the white one. I think the lights attract small organisms or insects that the minnow or small fish feed on and in turn this brings the larger fish we are after. I have found that I don't catch many fish while the light is on, but when you turn it off the bite seems to start. I was  fishing in a pop up about 10 to 12 feet away from  a shanty my buddy has and he had the green light on in one of the holes over there with four people and they were not catching any thing. I however was catching fish so I  think maybe it is better to not have the light right bellow where you are fishing or to turn it off every once in a while. We were using the light to attract crappie. I don't know about other fish.

The green light is the best to use if going to use one.  Like Cherokee said, dont fish right below but in close proximity.  The light does atract the plankton and other aquatic organisms which in turn attract the smaller minnows etc, which attracts the bigger pans.  We use them for crappie fishing and it does work.  Used them also in Oklahoma many years ago in open water at night.

I can see them working but not legal in Ontario so I have no personal experience with them.
