We hit Lake Owen this morning. There is open water near the dike and the handicap dock. We fished the south shore and had between 6" - 8" of ice. Fishing started a little slow as we were fishing right off the bottom in about 8ft of water. We kept getting hits when we dropped in a new line and figured out that the fish were about 3ft below the ice. From then on it was game on!! We fished till noon then had to come back in to Laramie. We iced 3 rainbows and 21 brookies. The biggest brookie was 13.5". It was great finally getting onto the ice. Another vehicle showed up while we were out there and they sounded like they were having a good time as well.I took a lot of pictures, however, they are now on the bottom Lake Owen!! First phone I have lost to the fish gods!! I was due for a new one anyway!! As for the drive in, the snow is starting to get pretty deep. I have pretty high ground clearance so I didn't have any trouble. Looks like someone else had some trouble at the turnoff up in the forest at some point today. We did see a monster buck rutting pretty heavy as we drove in. I figured that he was 30" wide and had a 8" drop tine. Of course those pictures are also on the phone!! Look for him around the sage brush hillside on the way in.Overall we had a great time and it was good to be on the ice! Here is a picture of some that we brought home for dinner, of course this picture was taken on my friend's phone!!(Image removed from quote.)
