A couple cool things I found today
« on: Nov 25, 2011, 11:47 AM »
The ice section is finally getting up and going in my local store. Today while in I saw a few new things..

Suffix Braid & floro combo pack. I love suffix braid and this year year you can but a spool of braid and a spool of floro at the same time.. not really a large savings (if any at all) but im liking the new green line over the orange, and it is now 832 Ice line.. we will see

Then i noticed the new HT tup-downs, look like they are on the same base as teh windlass tip-up, fully foldable for transport.. very light weight so you will need some sluch or snow to pack them down. (under $10)

And although I have seen these on line, this is the first time up close and personal. I use a lot of pink/white so i grabbed a few packs

suffix ice braid?  :o  Can you feel any difference from the normal 832 braid?  I LOVE braided line, but I had a terrible time with it last season b/c it soaks up too much water and freezes to everything...I'm wondering what's different about the "ice braid"?  Can you do a glass of water/freezer test?  Im close to going back to a mono/flouro for the ice, but I'd much rather have a braid for the low stretch qualities

Bought one of those Ht tip downs. Its really more of a glorified rod holder. Doesnt seem like it will do me any good for any smaller fish other than holding my rod up high. But if you had it packed down good like your saying and a pike on the other end it might work. Not worth the 10 bucks IMO. But ill prolly bend the lower plastic arm part flat on the base and just use it at half the length.

Thanx for the advice on the tip-down, I think I will stay away. As for the braid, it does not feel a coarse as the suffix 832 for open water. It feels the same as the standard suffice ice braid (which I use and enjoy)

It does freeze up, but not as bad ad most. I fish with it outdoors with no issues

I found 832 to be the worst and most expensive line I ever tried. Enjoy and at least the casts are pretty short on the ice.

IceJunky -

Thanks for the Lindy jigs pics.  I have not seen them yet but thought they looked like a great variety/all in one pack.  Your closeups sealed the deal for me - I'm getting some.

well, it is pricey...but it's the best braid I've ever tried (for summer), what line would you say is tops?

There are currently two suffix ice braids on the market. They are both awesome and the best there is but one is better than the other.

voltaire...which one is better?  I really don't want to give up on braid, but it didn't do me any good last year

There is "Suffix Performance Ice Fuse" and "Suffix Performance Ice Braid". One is in a red/yellow container and one is in a clear/translucent container. You want the "Suffix Performance Ice Braid" and it is in the clear/translucent container. It is approx. $3 more per spool, but definitely worth it. I have both on my hardwater rods now.
