Hinges..hitches..ideas for sled???
« on: Sep 26, 2011, 08:49 AM »
Hey guys.  Just got a new sled (new to me) and wondered what everyone has done for hitches??  I have an otter that I need to get a hitch and cover for but wondered about the back of the snowmobile.  Any ideas??  Just moved to Fargo as well and am excited about some ice fishing.  If anyone is interested in a new fishing buddy let me know..  I will be fishing around the DL area in MN mostly..

Thanks for your input!!
Can't wait until I'm on the ice again!!

I just took a two inch flat stock and bent it to fit around the bar or handle on the back of sled.

If your handy with the tools, make you own from 1/8th flat stock or U bolt a large barn hinge around the rear bumper of the snowmobile if it has one.   Some of the machines require them to be bolted under the rear of the seat.    As for the hut,  you can make your own or buy the commercialy made ones.

Some conduit and a trailer coupler. Flatten out the ends of conduit, drill hole in each, bend at 45*,dill holes in sled, insert clevis pins, connect conduit to pins, clip. Done it this way for my quad.

I think he is looking for the "male" part of the gig...the part on the back of the sled.....

One of my sleds had a hitch especially made for the back of the snowmobile, click here.....http://www.heeters.com/snbsleds.shtml

You could also just bolt on a flat piece of steel onto the back of the sled, drill a hole through it and hook up your Otter to that, but for $10 bucks, you've got one made for towing.....

I made a hitch on the back of my boggan (for pulling doubles) out of an old fence gate hinge, bolted through the plastic to a piece of steel flat bar. I can try and get a decent picture of it one evening if you want, it's nothing fancy, but it doesn't really have to be. My snowmobile has a factory hitch on it from the previous owner.
A bad day of fishing beats anything else I'd be doing today.....

I used a carabiner over the rear bumper.
