Quick Strike Rig Regs - In Ontario?
« on: Oct 22, 2011, 06:26 PM »
Im going to have to do some investigation on this one as it has been a bit since I checked the regs. But I think on a quick strike rig we can only use 4 hook points.. anyone know off the top of there head? (I will check the regs when i get home)

I bought this, then remembered that the other quick strikes I own have 1 trebel and 1 single hook, i though due to Ontatio regs

Far as I remember, a treble is considered a single hook on an artificial lure such as is pictured, 2 trebles = 2 hooks, if you add bait of any type such as a minnow, minnow tail, etc, then they "become"  trebles again, and then you would be over the hook limit.

yeah, thats what I though, so use less as a quick strike rig in Ontario.. kinda brutal that  you can buy product that is not legal to use

Well don't despair yet, I was talking to a couple of other guys, it appears the MNR may have taken out the "bait" part of the rule, they added best place to check was the big rule book as the Fishing regs are more of a guide than the complete rules.  Time to start digging.  I noticed other places are selling similar rigs to what you have.

Actually quite legal.
You can have up to 4 hooks attached to one line.
A hook is defined as: a single-pointed or multiple-pointed hook on a common shaft.
So a treble counts just the same as a single hook with each counting as 1 hook .
A few years ago things changed and references to artificial lures being required for a treble to count as only one hook were removed.
Pg. 8 of the 2011 FISHING ONTARIO Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary contains the current info under Hooks and Lines and also Hook.
Now it is legal to have 4 trebles baited with minnows on a single line.

Living proof that "beer builds better bellies"
