Iditarod 2011
« on: Feb 18, 2011, 09:48 PM »
Thought I would send out a general invite to anyone who is interested.  We are going to set up the spearing shack on the north end of Long lake and watch the dogs.  We did this last year and had an absolute blast.  You can stand right next to the trail and slap high fives with the mushers as they go past.  Great for the kids.  So bring your beer and shanties and come watch the dogs.  Heck and you might even catch a fish or two.  Pm me for directions I have permission from a land owner to walk through their yard.

This year they could start in Los Anchorage and not have to do a restart with all the snow you've been getting.  ;)2

Just found out today that you can drive right to the spot so access is not an issue as long as you have 4 wheel drive.  Dirt I don't want to hear any excuses I hope to see you out there.  You to Dude I owe you guys a beer.

We will just have to see how this pans out.... I need a couple more trips to the cabin..... outta firewood and need to get the loft areas done before May so the girls want to come out more often.... ;)  It's a lot easier to get neked when showers and toilets are available..... ;)

Hey Hardwater, do the mushers go from the north to the south end of the lake?  Care If I get public access directions from you?

Thanks.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

They do go from north to south and the lake is drivable.  If you check out the fish and game lake maps it will give you directions to the public access.  From there just follow the tire tracks to the spot, you cannot miss it.  We will hopefully be getting there around 7am so we can get set up for the first light bite.  What does everyone think about a BBQ.  I don't have a grill but if someone could bring one then we could all bring some meat and  side dishes.  Any thoughts.

If you guys find the public access you will see a bunch of New Pilings to the right as you head on the lake. That is one of my co-workers house and dock. They are supposed to be having a big barbecue for the Iditarod. Hopefully I can make it out there. I gave my old eskimo ice auger to my pile drivers this week so they could drill some holes. They turned around after the first hole was drilled and when they looked back over at the auger it was in a ball of flames. The old girl is a charred piece of plastic and metal now.

Dude that sucks.  We will have plenty of augers to borrow as long as you promise not to light them on fire. ;D

What the flaming auger of death Finley burst into a ball of flames. It's about time that thing has melted more holes in my cloths than I did as a kid. Florida was nice now it's time to get some fishing in.

I didn't see this before the race or I would have road my machine down to say howdy.  I did ride down to check things out and saw the Willowbilly sign.  ;D

It was a great day out there this year!
