Little project!
« on: Feb 19, 2011, 07:22 PM »

I bought that(8X6)..it's cool for the space but..No floor...

But,,i don't really want to battle with this thing on  windy days..

So i'm going to make a floor , but it's have to be foldable and be a sled(4 X3 Closed and 8X6 open)...

Project is started!

just doing it in my wasted times..so....more pics later!

That's a good idea.  Floors can make a world of difference in a portable like that.  Adds both sturdiness and a warm dry spot for your feet!

My goal is to fix the bottom of the shanty all around this folding sled. so when it's closed, all the tissue is inside(that the reason off the small edge) I'll just have to unfold-it all and enter to fix the poles to rise it...

I put two peices of wood(traverse) for reenforce the floor.(if never it's dragging to mutch the snow, it'll be a hi-core peice add in the center from the front to the rear peice.

Bottom kit

upper kit

all in one

it's now reaching 11"1/2, not so bad.

Notice that the distance of the bottom to the floor is 3"3/4 so on each foldable side, there's going to have mountable/unmountable support to keep everything at the same hight and the support for the upper part's going to be fixed(use for both support/put stuff(auger and else))...

Next stage is sanding and painting all, after that,,add Hinges and adjust all...last stage, Fix all the bottom of the shanty an test it!

That is one beautiful idea---I LOVE it man...I might just do that to mine for next year..

There are some real smart people on here....Now,are you gonna be pulling this by hand
or horses(lol) The idea is awesome.Do you plan on having the shelter fastened on the
floor as well...How do you plan this? I was thinking a small length of chain and some
snap hooks...what do you think your floor is going to weigh when all said and done..
too cold ....aint going out there..

Lol it's the same here and on my french fishing board..How it's gonna weight? Lol..Of course i could made it in paper,,it's light,,but not enought tought..I got to target enought tough(cause we're gonna step and walk inside) for minimum weight..and i'll gonna put it on a scale when everything done!

the bottom of the shelter will be permanently attached with wooden rails(just all going inside when everything is closed.(i dont want to battle with nothing on windy day..just put the rods inside to elvate it)

Added primer and 1shot oil paint..Yess more weight! ;D

More weight, I added twelve hinges  :o

At least,,i have to add 2 more hinges and make the rack on the top(it's gonna be the support(when it's open/and the space to put stuff and also Kind of cross supports made in light wood for the 4 openning sides!

And put it on a scale to satisfy everyone Lol..but i think it's gonna be around 70-80lbs when finished..maybe...but it"s gonna be perfect for me. @)

I have a clam summit that I had a simalar idea, the difference is that I was going to make mine so that it folded into a box to hold all the gear,it would be 6' long with 4- 2' folding sections with the floor supports on the outside so when it folds flat they would end up on the bottom

Dont have the choice for the size,, the new shelter(without floor) was 6' by 8'...

I was not so bad in my predictions.. it's weight 80lbs now! Figure out i've maybe a couple of pine peices to add( 2lbs max maybe).

Another step is done!

Did this both Accessories compartments/Floor enforcer(to have the same hight(skis-floor)both side) and 6, 1/2 hi-core crosses(very light) for the foldables sides.

Next Final step, fix the portable on it!

Yess,,Finally it's done!...And ready to use!..Even i'm not sure to bring it for the next fishing days(because it's becoming very hot around here!) But it's done! :)

Note: I think it took me around 20min to mount it alone before putting it on the sled, now, it's 4 min and it's ready to use!

Nice look after all!

How are you supposed to fish in that thing with no holes in floor?? Or are you just using it as a "base camp"?

Base camp!,  Cause i hate fishing in that, it's not cover enought if only fishing at one place! Cannot use baitfishes here in many places so we have to jig in many holes one by one! it give more result this way!

It should pull pretty easy with the skis . I have a Trekker 2 , that weighs 70# alone and when you add 20 # . I pulled it once thru 10'' of snow , it was like pulling a dead deer .  I built a smitty sled and now pull it around with one hand !  Thats one nice set up you have there !!!
