Where to start the search?
« on: Dec 13, 2011, 08:09 AM »
I was looking for some help on where to start looking for trout on this lake. It is Foster-Arend pond in Rochester, MN.  Where would you start and why?  What type of lure/jig/bait you would try?    http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/data/lakemaps/c2789010.pdf It is about 18 acres (used to be a gravel pit.) and is stocked with both Brook and Rainbows. It is fairly weedy. I have tried the northwest corner down to the deepest area, I have used slender spoons, and small jigs tipped with waxies, spikes, and small minnows.  I have been successful in catching pan fish there but never trout. I do not have any electronics (yet hopefully Christmas).  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

Start off really shallow. The BC and Alaska boys fish water under 10' deep for Rainbows and Brookies.
I would start in the NE, SE and SW corners and fish 2-10 FOW. They tend to like shallow flats.   ;)

There is a 15 foot flat on the north west corner, right where that pinches at the drop off on each end is where i would try. the fish can feed on that flat and you catch them when they come off it.

Thank you for the replies, I will try that out on Saturday if there is any ice left after this warm streak and rain we have been having.
