The one in the pic could be a blue, but from what I have learned from watching WFN for 10-12hrs per day for the last year and a half is that the true blue walleye species was present in a couple of the great lakes and is believed to be extinct.  In different parts of the country, usually northern destinations, you can catch what appears to be blue walleye but genetic testing has indicated that these are still infact regular walleye not a separate species as the true blue walleye were(are) and the blue appearance on these "fake"  blue walleye comes from chemical reaction between the fish's slime and various natural tannins in the water.  But again this is just what I have heard, it would still be cool to catch a walleye like that whether it was real or not.

I have caught walleye with similar coloration down here in northeast pennsylvania, which are obviously not blue walleye. There are many color variations including the blue variant of walleye that are not the subspecies blue walleye. From all I have read the blue walleye(sander glaucus) and the blue/blue-silver variants of yellow walleye(sander vitreus) are extremely difficult to tell apart. Genetic tests are necessary for a proper identification because blue/blue-silver variants of yellow walleye can occur in almost any canadian waters, however anything is possible.

I've also caught "blue walleye" in a few lakes a fish in in Northwestern Ontario.  Most of the lakes are very small in size and also hold walleye that are almost completely black top to bottom.  The blueish walleye are very beautiful fish with almost a pearl colour to them.  Real blue walleye or not, they are still fun to catch and taste just as good.
