Flasher Only , Underwater Camera Only or Both?
« on: Jan 29, 2011, 07:45 PM »
I like using both simultaneously, 'cause when I'm dropping a ice-jig down the hole and about halfway down I see a fish coming up after it and he's not visible on the uw camera yet, about ten times outta ten, he's hungry and decent size

PS ...and oh yeah, I REALLY like that new 360 uw camera I bought ! ;D

I'm getting a camera for next season also. I used 1 last couple of years and loved it. This year I got a vex and love it also. The cam I had was a cheap 1 so I sold it before I moved out here. I bought so many new toys my wife said NO MORE! when my buddy came out he brought his and the most important thing we used it for was checking for brush before we set up our tip ups. Its also nice to use in deep water to see if fish are looking at my bait or just cruising by. I honestly believe I was handicapped with out 1 this year and will for sure have a great 1 next year. Yea and I'll never leave home with out my fl-20. Its a must have..

i use a flasher and got to use a camera for the first time this year and i thought it was really cool, but you know sometimes i like to turn off the flasher and go back to fishing the old fashion way. it make it fun to fish blind once in a while.

I have a sonar and a camera also, the past couple times out I've noticed the fish start to come in but take off before making it all the way to my lures, I've found once i remove the camera from the water they commit and I'm able to catch way more fish. . . . . . I've also had to downsize my lures and mellow my jigging tactics that last couple times out so might not be all the camera

I have both. If I could only choose 1 it would be the flasher. With that being said, last week the camera helped me catch more fish than the flasher. I was marking fish on the vex and they were checking out my bait but no commit. So, curious what was down there I sent the camera down the other hole. I found my bait and I watched the blue gill, and bass checking out my presentation. Once I could see the action on camera I was able to really dial in a lively look and boom I was catching them. I tried to repeat it with out looking at the cam and could not duplicate what I was doing while watching it on the cam. Bottom line, because of the cam I ate fish that night!

I also like to use it to check structure, bottom composition and species. Surprisingly, I have not noticed it spook the fish at all. As a matter of fact they seem curious by the camera and come right up to it. Overall they both have their place and if you can spend the money you will find that they are both nice to have. If you are choosing 1 go with a flasher though. With the flasher you instantly see where you need to fish, what their reaction is to your presentation. You can find depth, bottom composition and no need for clear water it will always show you. The flasher has increased the number of fish I catch substantially! Take care!
Fish on!!!

I've found the uw camera to be very helpful in determining proper bait presentation, i.e. negative bite, lookers-no-takers, going to a smaller bait with a less aggressive presentation.

The vex doesn't let you see if the fish looking at your lure are walleyes or carp, the camera does. I prefer to catch wallys instead of carp. ;D

I have a camera and i love it its alot of fun watching fish come up and take it and see how they want it but i have noticed that it makes the trout skiddish the light on the camera i think scares them becuase almost everyone that came on screen would book it out of there almost immediately, but perch have come up and just stared straight into the camera makes me kinda nervous like they can see me haha. i would rather have a vexilar though. cameras are fun but i think the vexilar you catch more fish its easier to mark them. If i could have both camera and vex that would be awesome but i dont have the money for a vex.

Have never used the two in tandem but when we did have the camera I think we missed more fish as we were on a horizontal plane on what we would see. The ones that we did see were cool, but at times were we more interested in watching the fish than catching them!

I am the same way i watch them nibble on my jig and forget to set the hook until they swim away and i realize what i did haha. Or if i have two poles on the camera i set the hook on the wrong pole cause im watching the tv and not the pole its very frustrating.

On my vex I adjust the setting with that yellow button to resist detecting carp, but before vex came out with that feature you could just tell the difference cuz a walleye will stop and look at your lure and the carp just swim on by.  My vex actually has a fourth color it turns blue when a fish actually looks at my lure.   ;)   Sure do hate when a 10lb wally wraps himself around my camera cord and the hook falls out.   ???
If ya dont find em at least you can eat ur minnows!
