Bussey?
« on: Dec 09, 2010, 09:53 AM »
Tentatively planning a trip to Bussey Lake next Thurs.(12/16)  I've never been there, is it usually crowded during the week? Is the bite usually morning and evening, or all day? I'd appreciate any help you can offer!

Also, I might want to drive up to PDC to Cabela's for a bit. Any other water along the river a guy might want to check out in the area?

I have hammered the big walleyes on the mouth of the lansin boat ramp. There is a trout stream comming in towards the mouth so be careful and check the ice often. the south bend right before the bridge is 12 feet deep and can be amazing.

I like fishing up in graymore and the reno bottoms as well.

I heard they were doing good earlier this week. Ice should be fine next week. Here is a map of the lake, Alot of the fishing is done in the center trenched out area. I've fished the eastern canal more towards the northern side in 4-6 fow. Both places ive done good. The center area holds alot of fish. You have to do some moving around to find them though. Bite is good in morning and towards sunset, and slow in the middle of the day, but thats typical id say.

Fished there Tues. and caught lots of fish. Several guys had limits of gills. I was selective and kept 15 with 3 real nice crappies. Had 1 9" gill, the rest 7.5-8'. Lake had refroze with water coming over the snow was slick. RH
It's mind over matter, if you don't have a mind it don't matter.

Thanks for all the help, fellas. I'm pretty pumped to go up there, so I hope my plans work out. Hopefully I'll get a little time out around home this weekend, to get started, but the weather don't sound good. Cold don't matter, I can live with the snow, but those 35-40 mph wind gusts they are talking about, that might keep me home.

When we were up 10 days ago, it was pretty slow. What we did catch, not too big. Kept about 10 gills, but nothing over 7 inches. The people we talked to up there seemed to think the hot bite was over.

That is pretty tough watching them and not getting them to hit, always had real good luck there the first couple weeks of ice but never had much this late.

based on the posts in early January, I am guessing that the bite has not been good. We are looking to travel up next weekend - have a soldier returning for leave - taxes are due you know - and he wants to get some fishing in. We have not had much luck near Cedar Rapids and want to try our luck with this area.

Any thoughts? wanna see if we can get our buddy on some fish. ???
