Lots of fish and a personal best Bluegill

[Jigging Nomad]

Got out on one of my local ponds in eastern CT the morning after Christmas with a few friends to do some jigging through the ice.  We found 4-5" of solid ice, air temps in the mid 20's and increasing snow and wind throughout the morning under cloudy skies.  The action was not fast and furious, but was steady. I was lucky enough to extend the Bass streak to 24 consecutive months.  Here's a sampling of some of my fish caught in 5 to 7' of water on small jigs tipped with waxworms or very small hair jigs, including 2 of the 3 bass I jigged up.







Not a bad morning with plenty of fish and laughs.  We hit another pond for an hour or so on the ride home.  We jigged up Pickerel, Yellow Perch, Bluegill and Crappie, about 10 total including this BEAST 10 3/4" Bluegill that is the largest I have ever seen or caught.  She came out of 12' of water and was caught on a small gitzit tube tipped with a waxworm.  I missed her 3 times before I stuck her, then giggled like a 5 year old when I saw how big she was!

Looks like u had a great day of ice fishing. that last bluegill was reeaally nice. great bunch of fish.

nice catch, I landed my personal best gill a few seasons back, almost the exact same size, and Im still excited even talking about it

Thanks.  The CT DEP says its a Bluegill-Redbreast Hybrid.  It was a thrill to catch and release that one.

Nice fish, especially the gill. Congrats on releasing her!  I initially thought it was a Pumpkin seed/ blue gill hybrid; but I'm no biologist.
