Clam 2000 Hole Covers
« on: Jan 11, 2011, 12:02 AM »
My 2000's hole covers are a pain in the butt to get out. The pins dont slide good at all. Ive tried lubing them, heating the pins up. Was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and if theres something I could do to loosen them up a little.

yea got the same problem.I  leave the back 2 and use them as a hinge and just flip it up. Most of the time I only hook 1 in the ft. side because you cant get the pin to slide back. Maybe drill the hole a bit wider?

I got a clam 200 with the same issue, but I think they leave them that tight so the pins dont fall out.

Chainsaw file.  Make the holes a wee bit bigger.

Only file the outside holes bigger as you dont want to lose the pins.. John

X 2

Heating the pins will only make them "larger" until they cool.

Another option would be too look into smaller diameter pins that are used to lock a trailer hitch into place on the ball of your truck or other types of locking pins with spring locks.
