Myself, I have never seen an advantage in the bite, with the reds at least.  I have found that the "un-improved" white work best for me.

May be what I am fishing for.

I use red spikes for gills, perch, and crappie.  They work good, some times I put red and white together works good also.

I find the colored baits are so much easier to thread onto the hooks, especially when you go tiny #14 hooks.  ;D

I believe you're talking about Eurolarva.  Fruit loops on acid. The color is a product of their diet, different dyed turkey carcasses.  The color's in the guts, not the maggot's skin.  Food coloring would have minimum effect, I believe.  My preferred maggot if they're available which is not often here in MT.

I always in the past have ordered the mix and end of sorting thru for the red ones.  this year think im going to just order red and save myself some time sorting.  well...may still have to get like 500 of the mix and 1000 fo the reds.

I use a Swedish pimple tipped with a white spike in between two red or blue ones works very well for panfish, just ordered a bunch from Knutsons Bait they came in about two days and the box was full of wood shavings for packing and i use it for wax worm bedding........

OH yes the pink ones work much better than the white!! Up here in Montana u can catch trout walleye and perch on them. but once i get my first keeper i stop with the maggots and go with there eyes. trust me they work much better. and if u are fishing deep for perch u can reel them up fast and usually there eyes will just pop out so u dont have to cut them out. i know i know its a little sick but damn does it work, much better than other baits.
