Shimano Sonora 1000

Anyone use this reel for ice fishing? I was thinking about picking up two and putting them on some Jason Mitchell Med. action walleye rods. I have owned shimano reels throughout the years and have been happy with them. Never used them for the hard water. How do they hold up in the cold? Thanks.

most shimano reels hold up well in the cold, I have used my Stradic in the cold with no issues, and a buddy of mine uses the Sienna with no concerns. Personally I would not buy a pair of reels untill you have tested them in the cold. I got bitten once previously buying a small quantum reel that froze right up in the cold, no matter what I did to it

Well I don't sit on a bucket outside and am always in my one man with the heater going so freeze up isn't that big of a deal. The only time the reels would be exposed to extream cold is heading out and when I move. I like to move alot but don't want to be holding the reel next to the heater before being able to fish.
