jiffy bits
« on: Dec 12, 2010, 11:38 AM »
i have an older jiffy model 30 with an 8'' bit. can i put a 10'' bit on this, or will it not fit? i almost never need a 10'' bit but i thought if both would fit i could put the 10'' on when it's gonna be a 0 degree day or lower so i don't have to worry about cleaning my holes so often in order to keep them big enough for the evening run.

Jiffy uses the same size input hole on all the power ice auger drill assemblies. A 10" Jiffy ice drill assembly will work fine on your 30.

You can change the drill to a different size no problem.

You may notice that it will take a little longer to punch through with the 10" though.

I know lots of guys that do this.
They have a 6" for early ice panfishing, and switch to 10" when they are going for Pike and Walleye.

Hope this helps,

Wiener

You should be just find...you may need to rework the jets for the bigger auger, but not always!!  If you had a Jiffy Lighting like I do you can only go up to a 9"....however the Jiffy Lighting XT CAN take the 10"!!!  But ALL Model 30 should have no problem with the 10" auger!!!

Yep. I have the 6" and 9" drills for mine. That 6" sure rips though the ice. ;D

I would strondly suggest contacting Jiffy and buying one of the Shredder blades for your Jiffy. I put a 10" one on my old Model 30 and it out drilled every one around me from 6" blades on up. The ice was about 15 inches. They could not believe how fast it was.
The bad news is someone stole it out of my shed last week. So I will have to start looking foa older model 30 again!
