Whats everyone's opinion on this unit?? Tri-Beam??? Is it worth the $600 bucks? Have a FL-12 now. The jury is still out...

Please put aside the vex/marcum debate. This a question about this unit.

It's not just the tri-ducer your paying for - they incorporated a lot of other features in this unit making it "one" of the best products Vexilar has come out with.

The only draw back I see is the max depth reading only goes to 60 feet. Making it un-useful for deep water fishing - say for Lake trout. However if you fish less then that, your all set !

I just picked up an FL-18 today.  Its my first ice fishing flasher and something I have wanted for the past 7 seasons.  I looked at the tri-beam and I think its a great feature see how it could be helpful but I couldn't justify the extra dough right now for it.  Is it possible to order a tri -beam transducer and hook it up to another unit?
Many are cold, but few are frozen

I love my fl-18.  (Some good thoughts Bird).  I've used it on Perch and Lakers in over 100 feet of water with no problems.  As far as I know, you can upgrade your ducer with the new triple beam, but obviously you want to check first.  I do, however, have a question for you Vex guys (keep your sarcasm to yourselves if you're not a vex guy) ;D.  Today I was using the 18 and the bottom jumped up a foot or so every once in awhile.  The only thing I can think is that the reason was I was on 3-4 inches of ice and the movement of the ice up and down around the hole because of my weight.  Otherwise, were there any earthquakes today that I haven't heard about? ::)  Any thoughts?

You might have been on the edge of a dropoff, that or maybe a log that was cutting in and out on the vex maybe!
