Crappie Rigs for Trout
« on: Jan 09, 2015, 08:21 AM »
I have been using crappie rigs with my dead sticks and automatic fisherman. I haven't had much luck except for a few pickerel. Do you think trout and panfish are afraid of the 20# test mainline or the silver arms?

i take it your using spreader rigs? if so dont. lol some days, when they are on hard, you could bait up a log chain and get bit. thats not every day though. so go as stealth as you feel comfortable.

use a good main line and lighter leader.  10# to 6# at least. slammers can put a lot of shock on the line, as can the trout, so you need good line. if you have to use 2 baits per line use a swivel and dropper vertical rig.
real fishermen don't ask "where you catch those"

I wonder if these spread rigs work for perch. I like the idea of a 10 # leader and then I put snelled hooks on the sides with a minnow and with a grub on the other. I put a swimming rap. jig  on the bottom. If I get caught on I stick, I should not lose the entire rig. I wonder if this rig spooks the perch.
