Polar pal
« on: Dec 06, 2010, 07:32 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get one new or used ? Dragging a clam around seems like such a inconvient way for shelter.

no it is a nylon dome type shelter very portable, it was my first shelter i ever owned ,used to see many of them on the ice ,they were around before flip overs ,back in the day they were state of the art

Now that you described it, I have one of those. It is extremely portable and goes up and stowes easily. In fact, I like it better than my clam. Great for one man use.

Hi Pequod, hope to cya first ice somewhere. I have one also although the ripstop nylon has a LOT of duct tape on it. We used them for the longest time-not the best in wind storms though. A guy did show me a trick once that helped though-use a shock cord from the metal stays at the top to the ones on the "floor"-it pops the tent tightly open and minimizes the wind ripping effect. Still you have to stay seated on the stay floor rods or that baby will flip over..   Cya....

put an s hook where it comes together clamp one end so the other slides out to the end and sew in a loop in the back half way up and tie it off with a spike in the ice ,just a couple of things that work very well
