IMO if your going to use them for anything other than ice fishing I would go with carhartt just because I feel carhartt are a little more durable.  If your just using them for ice then the vexilar would be an option.  Not very many things you could tear up your bibs on out on the ice.
Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.  -Henry David Thoreau

I haven't used the Vex bibs, but I would say go with them if it's for fishing only.  I can't keep dry in Carhartts, I fish from my knees a lot and am sloppy with my auger.  I was always wet from the knee down when I wore Carhartts.

That's where knee high insulated rubber boots come in handy and kneeling on your gloves!!!

I hear ya, but then I'd have to get a new set of boots  ;)

I wear Cabelas Guidewear bibs, they are pretty nice, reenforced knees and around the cuffs, had them since 07 and they are still in great shape, but I think I payed too much, they were around $200 bucks.

Sportmans Guide is offering these bibs, these seem like a steal and there's a thread about them here, everyone is very pleased with them so far and they are under 60$.

Own the Vexilar bib pants, wind and water resistant not water proof, never been cold wearing them. Reinforced knee area, velcro cuff for large boots, I wear Cabelas Predator Extremes. Carhartt user before the switch to Vexilar Cold Snap, quality garment, lightweight, and comfortable. Also own the jacket, very warm and more than enough pockets.

I haven't tried any of the ice fishing specific bibs but they look very nice. I wouldn't mind try some but I wear Carhartt just due to the durability factor. Work springs for the bill so they get used for that as well which really puts them to the test. I would base my decision on how much abuse you think they are going to get. I have no complaint on the attributes of myCarhartt Extremes.

Same bibs I wear, a light layer underneath and I am good to go, don't lose much heat out of the legs, love mine... My parka on the other, I broke the zipper in the first few weeks.

If you are buying them primarily for ice fishing, I would go with the Vex. If you think you would use them for other purposes (outdoor work/construction) I guess I would give the Carhartts some thought. I have had a pair of the Carhartts for the last 7-8 years, but I am planning on buying a pair of the Vex bibs this year for ice fishing. Tough to beat the $100 price point compared to Ice Armor or Ice Suits.

I'ver got both. I won't go on the ice w/o my vexilar bibs. Well worth the money, but I wont go to work w/o my carhartt's.

I've been wearing the same Carhartt arctic extremes for about 7 years. I go out every other weekend. When my lady washed them for this season they still looked brand new. I would always pick these over any ice wear. They have one thing that none of the ice clothes have....they're solid black. That really helps when the sun comes out. I paid 180$ at Western Way. I also like that the legs unzip up the sides so I can put my boots on first if I want to, or take the coveralls off for the drive home without having to remove my boots.
