Carp through the ice?
« on: Dec 23, 2004, 02:19 PM »
Has anyone ever tried/ had success with carp through the ice? The only places within 15-20 minutes of me that I can ice fish without worrying about getting kicked off only hold carp and catfish. I'd much rather try fishing those places if I only have a few hours to fish rather than drive a half hour or more.

I had never caught a carp through the ice until just this year.  Saw three come through the ice that day at one of the area ponds.  Also caught a catfish through the ice that day which was also a first.  Last year, and so far this year at another reservoir we have caught numerous suckers through the ice.  All these fish were caught on small teardrop jigs tipped with a waxworm fished near the bottom.
mmmmmmmmmmmmm. . . . . ice

One of my fishing buddies seems to have the knack for catching them, I've seen him catch carp and suckers thru the ice on sweedish pimples and tear drops.
{ by accident}  I always tease him about his trophy Large lipped Halibits and
The monster Bronze back sturgens, we all get a charge out of it.
